About This Course

The Master of Animation and Visualisation is a hands-on, one year accelerated postgraduate degree developed in partnership with the industry leading animation studio Netflix Animation Studios (formerly Animal Logic). Designed for students with creative professionals this program allows you to study your chosen specialisation in 3D animation or visual effects, learning the latest industry practices in a professional, immersive studio. Drawing together students from a broad range of backgrounds, including digital artists and designers, 3D modellers, animators, visual effects artists, computer science and IT graduates, this program offers you the opportunity to collaborate and produce studio quality 3D animated films and visual effects projects. Requirements

Completed Australian bachelor's degree or higher qualification, or overseas equivalent, in any field of study
Advanced skills and aptitude in the nominated specialisation in 3D animation or visual effects production as demonstrated by portfolio and work experience covered in Curriculum Vitae (CV)
Applicants must nominate one specialisation from: Art Department, Pre-Visualisation/Layout, Modelling, Surfacing, Rigging, Animation, Effects (FX), Lighting, Compositing, Technical Direction, or Production Management
Portfolio requirements for Digital Artist Specialisations: a digital portfolio of work (PDF file, max. 10 pages) AND/OR a showreel link (max. video duration 2 mins) on Vimeo, YouTube or a QuickTime file, with clear captions of the applicant's role in each sequence
Portfolio requirements for Technical Direction Specialisation (without a showreel): documented experience in coding/programming for digital production or visualisation including links to coding projects (PDF file, max. 10 pages)
Portfolio requirements for Production Management Specialisation (without a showreel): documented project coordination and/or event management experience (PDF file, max. 10 pages)
Curriculum Vitae (CV) describing education, training and experience relevant to the nominated area, including previous qualifications, self-directed learning outcomes, relevant industry experience, and contact details for two referees
Shortlisted applicants will be required to attend a panel interview; progression to interview stage is conditional on first meeting English Language Requirements
English language requirements: IELTS Academic overall 6.5 (listening 6.5, speaking 6.5, reading 6.5, writing 6.0); TOEFL iBT overall 79; Pearson PTE overall 58; Cambridge C1A/C2P overall 176

The Connected Studio

First studio subject where students work together to develop the story for the year's 3D animated short film and complete pre-production for the project in specialised departments.

Second studio subject where students research new visualisation technologies to produce a second creative project, such as real-time and visual effects projects.

What is the industry partnership behind this course?

The Master of Animation and Visualisation was developed in partnership with Netflix Animation Studios (formerly Animal Logic), one of Australia's leading animation studios. The UTS Animal Logic Academy studio is co-designed with industry and offers students the opportunity to learn in a professionally equipped, state-of-the-art digital production studio. Industry presentations are also provided by studios such as ILM, Flying Bark, Fin Design, DNEG, Framestore and more.

What are the tuition fees for domestic students?

The indicative first-year tuition fee for domestic students is $40,650.00, with an indicative total tuition fee of $61,890.00 (AUD). Students can choose to pay fees upfront per session or defer them using a government FEE-HELP loan if eligible. UTS graduates may also be eligible for a 10% discount through the Alumni Advantage Program.

What type of projects will students produce during the course?

Students will develop and produce a studio-level 3D animation short film and an emerging visualisation project. In the first studio, students develop the story and complete pre-production for the animated short film. In the second studio, students research new visualisation technologies such as real-time and visual effects projects. In the final studio, students complete the 3D animated short film to industry standards, with the work showcased at an End of Year Showcase attended by key industry partners.

What are the application deadlines for this course?

For domestic students, applications are assessed in rounds: 1st round offers close 30 October 2026, 2nd round offers close 30 November 2026, and the final round closes 25 January 2027. For international students, offshore applicants must apply by 30 October 2026, and onshore applicants by 14 January 2027. Note that applications received after 30 October 2026 will be assessed based on availability of places.
