Admission requires one of the following: successful completion of the Swinburne Bachelor of Design (Architecture); the Swinburne Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) with a major in Architecture; the Swinburne Bachelor of Design (Interior Architecture) (Honours) with an Advanced Minor in Architecture; or another three-year undergraduate architectural course (assessed on a range of criteria including portfolio, personal statement, and transcripts).
Yes. Applicants are required to submit a portfolio of between 10 and 20 pages, which must address architecture- and/or urban design-related questions and include visual examples, as well as a 200–400 word written statement. The portfolio is assessed on conceptual thinking, spatial thinking, digital and analogue communication skills, and construction and environmental technology. To submit your portfolio, you will need to complete your online application first, after which you will receive a link to upload your portfolio to Slide Room.
The course takes 2 years full-time or equivalent part-time, and is offered at Swinburne's Hawthorn campus with intakes in both Semester 1 and Semester 2.
Applicants must satisfy one of the following: an IELTS overall band of 6.5 (Academic Module) with no individual band below 6.0; or Swinburne's English for Academic Purposes (EAP 5 Advanced level) with an overall score of 70% and all skills at 70% or above; or equivalent measures as listed on Swinburne's English language requirements page.
Yes. Credit transfer is granted in recognition of previous study and/or experience and allows students to gain advanced standing towards their course, with applicants assessed on a case-by-case basis. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is also available, allowing students to gain credit towards their course in recognition of skills and knowledge gained through work experience, life experience and/or formal training, also assessed on a case-by-case basis.
