Master of Biological Science

Western Australia is a terrestrial biodiversity hot spot where up to 80 per cent of the region's plants and invertebrates are unique to the area, and the state is a stronghold for threatened mammals, making it the ideal living laboratory for studies in biological science.

The Master of Biological Science at UWA takes 1.5 to 2 years to complete on a full-time basis.

Students can engage with a wide range of research projects across areas including behavioural ecology, marine ecology, fisheries science, isotope ecology, plant genomics, neuroecology, conservation and evolutionary genetics, aquatic research, and temperate reef ecology, among others.

The School of Biological Sciences hosts numerous research groups including Behavioural Ecology, Sea Around Us – Indian Ocean (Fisheries Science & Aquatic Ecology), Isotope Ecology, Plant Genomics, Neuroecology and Behaviour, Marine Ecology (Filbee-Dexter Lab and Wernberg Lab), Evolutionary Ecology, Conservation & Evolutionary Genetics, and the ARISE – Aquatic Research for Impact, Sustainability and Evidence group, among others.
