Yes, students can choose a research-based placement and spend a year in the lab with researchers to produce an independent piece of research, as an alternative to the industry placement.

The School of BioSciences offers dedicated support including the University of Melbourne Biotech Club for social and networking events, a Biotechnology Peer-to-Peer Mentoring program, course planning and academic skills advice, global exchange and overseas study support, fees and scholarship information, visa information, wellbeing and accommodation support, and student administration assistance through Stop 1.

Students study all aspects of the biotechnology product pipeline and build specialist knowledge in genomics and molecular biology. The course also covers business, scientific communication and leadership, ensuring graduates are ready to enter the biotechnology industry with confidence.

The Master of Biotechnology is taught on campus at Parkville, Melbourne, and is offered with intakes in both March and July each year. The course takes 2 years full time or 4 years part time to complete.
