Common Questions
No, you do not need a business background. The Master of Business is open to all backgrounds — the only academic requirement is completion of a bachelor degree or higher in any discipline. The course is described as your pathway to business expertise 'regardless of your previous field of study.'
To complete the Master of Business, you must pass 8, 12 or 16 credit points, depending on your entry point or recognition of prior learning (RPL). A full 16-credit-point program includes 8 credit points of core units, 4 credit points of course elective units, and 4 credit points of open elective units, plus a compulsory 0-credit-point Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin module (DAI001) in your first study period.
The estimated tuition fee is $34,200 for 1 year full-time for a full-fee paying place. Students may be eligible for a Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) loan — including FEE-HELP or HECS-HELP — depending on their course, type of fee place, and citizenship or residency status. Deakin alumni may also be eligible for a 10% discount on enrolment fees applied per unit, and various scholarships are available to assist with course fees, living costs and study materials.
The Master of Business is offered in two intakes: Trimester 1 starting in March and Trimester 2 starting in July. Both intakes are available at Burwood (Melbourne) campus and online. Direct applications to Deakin for Trimester 2 2026 close 21 June 2026.
The Master of Business provides students the opportunity to complete one or more work integrated learning (WIL) units. Opportunities include a capstone business consultancy project, an international consultancy, an entrepreneurship experience and a business for social impact project. Units containing WIL, community placement or interaction with the community may require a police check, working with children check or other checks, as detailed in unit guides upon enrolment.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
