Information Systems Applications in Business
Provides an introduction to the subject of information systems (IS) by presenting the most relevant concepts used to manage the integration of IS into business and society. Students will develop both a theoretical and a practical understanding of business information systems.
Database Management Systems
Introduces students to the fundamentals of relational databases, covering data modelling, entity relationship diagrams, SQL, PL, data analysis, database systems security, distributed database management systems, and data mining.
Software Development
Students learn the fundamentals of software development, investigating client application software problems, evaluating approaches, and designing solutions using a programming language such as Python, covering the full software development lifecycle.
Systems Analysis Design
Covers the principles of analysis and design for information systems, including data requirements gathering and analysis, data modelling at conceptual, logical, and physical levels, functional dependencies, and domain normalisation.
Big Data and Visualisation
Introduces concepts of big data analytics and visualisation, enterprise technologies, big data business intelligence, algorithms, machine learning techniques, and data visualisation tools and techniques. Pre-requisite: MBIS4002 & MBIS4003.
Business Process Management
Facilitates students in examining and improving business operations using business process modelling software tools to make informed recommendations for solving complex business problems. Pre-requisite: MBIS4004 (Co-requisite).
Professional Practice in Information Systems
Educates students about the ethical and professional aspects of information systems practice.
Common Questions
Students have two nested exit award options: they may exit with a Graduate Certificate of Business Information Systems (Data Analytics) after successfully completing 4 units (6 months full-time), or with a Graduate Diploma of Business Information Systems (Data Analytics) after successfully completing 8 units (1 year full-time).
The 2026 course tuition fee over 2 years is $46,240 AUD, which equates to $23,120 per annum and $2,890 per unit. All fees are in Australian dollars, are subject to change without notice, and must be paid in full before enrolment or selection of subjects in any given semester.
The Master of Business Information Systems (Data Analytics) requires students to complete 15 units totalling 160 credit points, including a Capstone Project worth 20 credit points. There are 13 compulsory units and 2 elective units.
Assessment types at AIH are practical, professionally focused, and project-based, and may include individual and team-based projects, case studies and presentations, essays, assignments and reports, final assessments, presentations and QA sessions, practical assessments, discussion forums, and participation in class including formative assessment activities.
The Master of Business Information Systems (Data Analytics) is offered face-to-face at both the Sydney campus (Level 3 & 4, 545 Kent Street, NSW 2000) and the Melbourne campus (Level 1, 20 Queen Street, VIC 3000). Course intakes are available in February, March, May, June, August, September, October, and November.
