Common Questions
To be admitted, applicants must have successfully completed an Australian equivalent relevant bachelor's or master's degree, along with an IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent with no band score below 6.0. Students who completed a degree in Australia may be eligible for an English language waiver. All non-cognate background applications will be reviewed to determine the student's likelihood of success and, if required, assign conditional foundation studies to be completed first.
No, students do not need to know their topic before they start the degree. The course has been designed to introduce students to a range of topics so they can pick one that interests them. As students progress, their project will become more focused and their selected topic will become their final year research thesis.
The Master of Business Research features two specialised streams: Management and Accounting. In the first year, students select three of nine elective units across these two streams. The accounting stream covers areas such as business analytics, auditing, business finance, and forensic accounting, while the management stream covers management issues, entrepreneurship, and strategic management.
The Master of Business Research comprises 5 core units and 3 elective units (240 credit points), with each unit worth 20 credit points except the master thesis unit which consists of 60 credit points. In the first year, students complete three elective units from their chosen stream and three compulsory research units. In the second year, students complete two compulsory research thesis units (MR603 and MR604) working with a principal and associate supervisor on a major research project that contributes significantly to understanding of business practices.
Research can fast-track graduates to senior roles in business, the public sector, or a higher degree by research, including a PhD. MIT Master of Business Research graduates can find research roles in diverse industries relating to either accounting or management, and may also have the opportunity to have their work published in relevant journals.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
