Common Questions
The course involves compulsory clinical placements of 360 clinical hours across the course. These hours are completed in 3 blocks, consisting of one internal practicum experience and two external practicum experiences. The internal placements occur in the award-winning Deakin Clinical Exercise Learning Centre (CELC) and Baker IDI Clinical Exercise Service, with supervision provided by expert Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPs). The external placements are in a wide variety of settings aligned to the scope of practice for clinical exercise physiologists and sometimes lead directly to future employment. Placements may require travel to regional or rural areas and can occur at any time, including during standard holiday breaks.
Yes, Deakin's Master of Clinical Exercise Physiology is the first exercise physiology course in Victoria to be accredited by Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA). Students can apply to become an Accredited Exercise Physiologist upon completion of the course, and are then eligible for provider numbers with Medicare Australia, WorkSafe Victoria, DVA, TAC and other compensable funds and schemes. Note that eligibility for students seeking accreditation is subject to meeting the requirements of ESSA.
The estimated tuition fee for a full-fee paying place is $32,400 for 1 year full-time. There are also limited Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP) available, with an estimated tuition fee of $9,537 for 1 year full-time under HECS. CSP places are not guaranteed and are allocated according to time of receipt of a completed application. Applications for CSP usually close in mid-late November each year. Students may be eligible for HELP loans including FEE-HELP or HECS-HELP depending on their course type and citizenship or residency status.
To be considered for admission, you need to have completed a bachelor degree in a relevant area with eligibility for Exercise Scientist accreditation (AES) from Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA). This includes graduates of specific Deakin bachelor degrees (H343, H353, D333, D394) where ESSA eligibility is noted on your transcript, applicants with an ESSA-accredited Exercise Science degree from another university, applicants with current AES accreditation with ESSA, or graduates who can demonstrate coverage of all ESSA Exercise Science level elements via a Graduate Entry Assessment. Students are advised to aim for a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 65% or greater, though this does not guarantee entry.
In addition to tuition fees, students should budget for several additional costs associated with clinical placement. These include a police check (up to $46, though a lesser rate is available when signed by the University Placement Officer), vaccinations as per external placement requirements (costs depend on the student's vaccination status), a current First Aid and CPR certificate, and a Deakin Clinical Exercise Polo shirt (approximately $25). Students may also be required to complete a placement in a setting away from their current residence, such as a regional or rural placement, and any costs associated with travel and accommodation will be at the expense of the student.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
