About This Course

The Master of Clinical Psychology course includes coursework units which contain a blend of theory and practice together with 1,000 hours of supervised practice and a research project. Students completing this course typically work as clinical psychologists in public and private hospitals and/or in private practice. Hospital/clinic settings encompass psychiatric, paediatric, geriatric, drug/alcohol and rehabilitation disciplines where the clinical psychologist may engage in both assessment and developing and implementing therapy programs.

On completion of this course, students will be qualified to be eligible for registration as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia and eligible to commence the pathway to be endorsed as a Clinical Psychologist.

The course aims are to develop graduates who are

able to integrate theory and advanced knowledge into scientific-evidence based ethical practice across the lifespan.
critical thinkers, who are able to apply advanced psychological knowledge to culturally responsive assessment in the evaluation of psychological disorders.
competent psychologists, who are able to: use assessment tools and processes related to a wide range of psychological disorders; interpret and synthesise clinical psychological assessment data with the knowledge of psychopathology to inform case formulation, diagnosis and intervention; and evaluate therapeutic progress and outcomes.
effective communicators working collaboratively with clinical teams, other health professionals and with clients.
demonstrate cultural sensitivity and a capacity to develop case formations and treatment interventions that are culturally sensitive and account for diversity.

Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited AQF Level 7 (Years 1-3) and Level 8 (Honours or 4th year equivalent) qualification(s) in psychology, or equivalent, including international qualification(s) deemed equivalent by the Australian Psychological Society:
Minimum WAM of 75 for Years 1-3 of APAC accredited AQF Level 7 qualification or equivalent in psychology, including international qualification(s) deemed equivalent by the Australian Psychological Society
Minimum WAM of 75 in Year 4 (Honours or 4th year equivalent) of APAC accredited AQF Level 8 psychology qualification or equivalent, including international qualification(s) deemed equivalent by the Australian Psychological Society
In addition:
Eligibility for provisional or full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia
Relevant work experience
Two satisfactory referee reports
Satisfactory personal statement(s)
Satisfactory Multiple Mini Interview performance

Additionally, shortlisting for the Multiple Mini Interview selection event is based on academic performance in only the Years 1-3 of APAC accredited AQF Level 7 qualification or equivalent in psychology, including international qualification(s) deemed equivalent by the Australian Psychological Society and all other information provided during the application process. This includes information provided to the Universities Admission Centre (UAC), referee reports, and completion of the Macquarie University Supplementary Form. Invitations for the interviews and offers for admission to the course are highly competitive. Meeting the minimum stated requirements does not guarantee an invitation to attend the interviews or admission to the course.
