Common Questions
Students are required to complete three professional placements in clinical psychology totalling 1,000 hours of direct client contact. Each practicum lasts approximately 23 weeks with a minimum of 45 days each, preferably at two days per week. Practicum 1 (PSY6330) is an internal placement at the University Psychology Clinic (345 hours); Practicum 2 (PSY6340) and Practicum 3 (PSY6350) are external community placements (345 hours each).
Students are required to have a Police Clearance check, a Working with Children check, as well as any appropriate immunisations. Additionally, OSH agreements, insurance policies, and risk assessments are required for all placements.
Yes, the course is accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC). Students are required to meet both the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA) psychology guidelines on Areas of Practice Endorsement and the APAC accreditation requirements. Graduates are eligible to apply for membership with the Psychology Board of Australia and must register with the Psychology Board of Australia to practise in the profession.
The estimated first year indicative fee for domestic students is AUD $41,000, and for international students it is AUD $42,650.
All applicants must have a 4th year qualification in an accredited course in psychology (with equivalents considered) and must submit a CV, a covering letter, and two independent references to meet APAC accreditation requirements. Overseas applicants must provide evidence that their psychology qualification has been assessed by the Australian Psychological Society (APS) as equivalent to an APAC-accredited Level 2 qualification. Short-listed candidates will participate in a selection interview, either face-to-face or via teleconference.
