You can choose up to two specialisations in the Master of Commerce (Extension). There are 15 specialisations available: Accounting, AI in Business and Society, Business Analytics, Cybersecurity, Risk and Privacy, Digital Transformation and Technology Management, Economics and Finance, Finance, Financial Technology (FinTech), Global Sustainability and Social Impact, Human Resource Management, International Business, Marketing, Marketing Analytics, Risk Management, and Strategy and Innovation.
The Master of Commerce (Extension) is a 2-year full-time program comprising 15 courses totalling 96 Units of Credit (UOC). You will complete core commerce subjects covering ethics and data literacy, a Coding for Business course, a capstone or practicum, and courses aligned to your chosen specialisation(s). If you choose one specialisation, you will complete 24 UOC of specialisation courses, 54 UOC of electives, and a 6 UOC capstone. If you choose two specialisations, you complete 24 UOC each for both specialisations, 30 UOC of electives, and a 6 UOC capstone. Part-time study is also available.
Depending on your chosen specialisation, the MCom (Extension) provides pathways to professional recognition with organisations including the CFA Institute, Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), Australian Human Resources Institute (AHRI), and the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP). As a GARP Academic Partner, UNSW also offers risk management courses aligned with the Financial Risk Manager (FRM®) certification.
Yes. If you have completed an undergraduate degree with relevant courses in business, you may be eligible for up to 24 Units of Credit (UOC) — equivalent to four courses — through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), reducing your program from 96 UOC to 72 UOC. If you have completed or partially completed a postgraduate degree with relevant courses, you may be eligible for up to 48 UOC of RPL, reducing the program to 48 UOC. RPL is subject to final assessment and UNSW Business School policies.
The Master of Commerce (Extension) provides opportunities to gain real-world experience through internships, industry projects, and practical coursework.
