Common Questions
The Master of Construction Management (Professional) is designed for two groups: those who hold a degree in a civil engineering or built environment discipline who want to further their interests and advance their career, and those with undergraduate qualifications in non-related disciplines who have proven professional experience in construction through public or private enterprises who wish to formalise their entry into the construction management industry.
To be considered for admission, you must meet at least one of the following: completion of a bachelor's degree or higher in a related discipline (e.g. architecture, building, civil engineering, property, quantity surveying, building surveying or construction management); completion of a bachelor's degree in any discipline plus 2 years of relevant professional work experience; or at least 7 years of relevant professional work experience. You must also meet English language proficiency requirements, such as an IELTS overall score of 6.5 with no band score less than 6.0.
The estimated tuition fee for a full-fee paying place is $31,600 for 1 year full-time, and approximately $9,809 per year full-time for a Commonwealth Supported Place (HECS). Students may be eligible for HELP loans including FEE-HELP or HECS-HELP depending on their course, fee place type, and citizenship or residency status. Deakin alumni may also be eligible for a 10% discount on enrolment fees per unit, and various scholarships are available to assist with course fees, living costs and study materials.
The course covers a broad range of topics including procurement, project economics, cost management, quantity surveying, business and construction management, professional practice, Building Information Modelling (BIM), and sustainability. Core units include Introduction to Construction Management, Strategic Construction Procurement, Construction Measurement and Estimating, Principles of Building Information Modelling, Building Systems and Environment, Cost Planning, Building Project Evaluation, Project Risk Management, Construction Management Practice, Construction Research Frontiers, Construction Company Management, and an Integrated Project Management capstone unit.
