Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy

The Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy supports you to become a clinically proficient counsellor with a strong foundation in ethical and evidence-based clinical competencies.
You explore contemporary theories and therapeutic approaches, learning to take a holistic approach to emotional, mental and relational challenges, and gain a deep understanding of how to work with couples, young people, grief and attachment.
Practical skills are built through hands-on experiential learning, including simulated scenarios with actors playing clients, and teaching comes from academics with extensive professional counselling experience.
Three specialisations let you tailor the degree to your career aspirations: Clinical Practice, Clinical Trauma Practice, or Research.
The program is designed to shape you into an ethically aware, research-informed and clinically effective counsellor, able to help people navigate mental health challenges including anxiety, trauma and depression.
The program totals 96 units — 42 units of core courses, 36 to 48 units of discipline courses and 6 to 18 units of electives, or 96 units taken as a single specialisation — over two years at the Adelaide City Campus, with a February intake.
