To be eligible, applicants must have completed an AQF Level 7 or above higher education qualification (or equivalent) in any discipline, along with at least two years of relevant counterterrorism experience in a managerial or leadership role. All applicants must submit a CV with a cover letter and a recent police check (not more than 90 days old). International students must also meet an IELTS score of 6.5 overall, with no band below 6.0.
The Master of Counterterrorism Leadership includes four semesters with a total of 160 credit points. The structure comprises 100 credit points of core units, 30 credit points of specialisation (or any specialisation units if no specialisation is chosen), 10 credit points of a capstone project, and 30 credit points of electives. Note that the RES520 Capstone Project (10 credit points) plus 2 electives may be replaced by RES521 Research Project (20 credit points) plus 1 elective.
The course offers two specialisations. The first is Counterterrorism and Cyberspace, which includes MCL503 Counterterrorism and Interoperability, MCL505 Internet Scams and Predatory Crime, and MCL506 Technology Enhanced Organised Crime. The second is Cybersecurity Risk Management, which includes ITC400 Information Systems, ITC500 Ethical Hacking and Defense, and ITC501 Digital Forensics.
For domestic students, the tuition fee is AUD $2,500 per unit, with total course fees of AUD $40,000, a one-time non-refundable application fee of AUD $500, and AUD $15,000 paid upfront. For international students, the tuition fee is AUD $3,750 per unit, with total tuition fees of AUD $60,000, a non-refundable deposit of AUD $500, and AUD $15,000 paid upfront prior to the issue of a Confirmation of Enrolment.
Graduates of the Master of Counterterrorism Leadership may find employment in executive leadership and senior management roles in fields such as counterterrorism agencies, professional organisations, government services, and educational institutions, as well as other contexts that require research skills and critical thinking. This course may also open opportunities to continue into higher degree research courses.
