Compulsory research-support coursework unit required to be completed within the first 12 months of candidature. There is no separate tuition fee cost for this unit; it is part of the tuition fee for the course.

The Master of Criminology (Research) is awarded on the basis of a supervised thesis of a maximum 50,000 words. The thesis must make a substantial contribution to the knowledge of the subject concerned, and it must be based on original research conducted on an approved topic under the supervision of a member of the University of Sydney Law School.
Yes. Students are required to complete the compulsory research-support coursework unit LAWS6077 Legal Research 1 within the first 12 months of their candidature. Masters students will complete 6 credit points of coursework. There is no separate tuition fee cost for this unit, as it is part of the overall tuition fee for the course.
The course commences on 1 March (Research Period 2) and 1 July (Research Period 3). The formal application closing date is 15 September for a 1 March commencement, and 15 March for a 1 July commencement. An optional Expression of Interest should be submitted no later than 30 June or 31 December respectively for each intake.
You must submit a formal application through the University's Online Application portal. Required documents include an Expression of Interest acceptance or evidence of supervisor consultation, a full research proposal of approximately 10 pages, a motivation statement, a time availability statement, a curriculum vitae, a list of publications (if available), a timeline for thesis and coursework completion, and two academic referee report forms with accompanying letters from each referee.
Yes. To be considered for an Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) scholarship, you must submit both your Master of Criminology (Research) application and your scholarship application by the relevant RTP scholarship closing date.
