No, you do not need an IT or computer science background. The Master of Cybersecurity and Computing is designed for those who have an undergraduate degree in any discipline but no IT or computer science background, making it perfect for developing the key knowledge and skills to enter a career in cybersecurity.
You can complete the master's in as little as one year (with advanced standing under Rule B) or two years when studying full-time, or up to six years part-time. The course consists of 16 units (96 credit points) in total.
Yes, you can exit early with the Graduate Certificate in Cybersecurity and Computing if you choose not to complete the full master's course, provided you fulfil the requirements of the graduate certificate at that stage.
The course is offered in Trimester 1 (February 2026) and Trimester 2 (June 2026) online and at Armidale Campus. Trimester 3 (October 2026) is not offered. The Sydney Campus offers on-campus study in Trimester 1 and Trimester 2 only. Online study is available in Trimester 1 and Trimester 2.
The course covers a wide range of topic areas including information privacy, network security, cloud security, cryptology, intrusion detection, and ethical hacking. You will also develop problem-solving skills, communication skills, and research skills, with the option to undertake academic research or gain practical experience by working on an industry project.
