Common Questions
Students can choose from one of three professional studies options: a Team Project (involving project management, execution and delivery), a Professional Placement (SIT791, a 2-credit-point capstone requiring prior completion of Career Tools for Employability STP710), or a Research Project (choosing between Research Techniques and Applications SIT723 or a Minor Thesis SIT792).
To complete the course, you must pass 8, 12 or 16 credit points. The number required may vary depending on your entry point or how much credit you receive as recognition of prior learning (RPL) based on your professional experience and previous qualifications. A full 16-credit-point program includes 4 credit points each of Fundamental Cyber Security studies, Mastery Cyber Security studies, course electives, and professional studies.
The estimated tuition fee for a full-fee paying place is $34,400 for 1 year full-time. For students in a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP), the estimated fee is $9,537 for 1 year full-time. These are estimates only and actual costs will vary depending on the units chosen, study load, course length, and any approved Recognition of Prior Learning.
The course is available across three intakes: Trimester 1 starting in March (available at Waurn Ponds/Geelong and Online), Trimester 2 starting in July (available at Waurn Ponds/Geelong and Online), and Trimester 3 starting in November (available at Waurn Ponds/Geelong and Online). Note that international students on student visas cannot enrol in Deakin Online due to Australian Government regulations.
Graduates may step into security roles in business, government, or law enforcement. Possible roles include security analyst, information security auditor, and security consultant. Combined with experience, graduates will be primed for leadership roles, including chief security officer, as they navigate the ever-evolving cyber landscape.
