English language requirements (Band 4) can be met through an IELTS Academic Overall band minimum score of 6.5 with no individual band less than 6.0, a bachelor degree from a country specified on the English Proficiency Bands page, successfully completing 0.375 EFTSL of study at postgraduate level or higher at an Australian higher education provider, at least five years of relevant professional experience, or other tests and programs defined on the English Proficiency Bands page.
Yes, students have the opportunity to spend their final semester undertaking a professional placement embedded within a host organisation. Successful applicants will enrol in SCI6700 Professional Placement (Science and Mathematics). Students are required to complete the equivalent of one semester of full-time study, typically a minimum of 300 hours over a maximum of 17 weeks, with full-time placements usually comprising 450 hours.
The estimated 1st year indicative fee is AUD $33,650 for domestic fee-paying students and AUD $42,400 for international students. Note that ECU charges per unit enrolled rather than an overall course fee, so the total cost may vary depending on unit choices. ECU fees are also adjusted annually.
The Master of Data Science is available at the Joondalup campus and online. Both full-time and part-time study options are available, and the course can be commenced in either Semester 1 or Semester 2. Students who commence midyear will complete their second and third semesters in reverse order.
Graduates will be able to: reflect critically on a complex body of data science knowledge, research principles and methods to demonstrate mastery of professional practice; apply advanced cognitive and technical skills to analyse complex concepts in authentic data science scenarios; apply communication and collaboration skills in designing solutions to data science problems; and use high level self-management skills to initiate, plan and execute a substantial data science focused project.
