The capstone component requires students to apply the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the course to a substantial independent research project, culminating in the submission of a 12,000-word dissertation. Students work on their dissertation during the final two semesters of enrolment, under the supervision of an academic staff member, and the research should identify an area for investigation which makes a relevant contribution to and extends the body of knowledge in the chosen domain.
The closing date for Semester 1 entry is 31 January of the commencing year, and the closing date for Semester 2 entry is 15 July of the commencing year. Separate deadlines apply for scholarship applications.
The course includes four categories of units: Core units covering advanced study in microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, and mathematical economics; Selective units offering a choice of advanced study in a broad range of economic applications; Elective units providing an optional choice of certain offerings from the Master of Economics program; and a Capstone component involving an independent research dissertation.
The Master of Economic Analysis is designed as a pathway to a career as a professional economist or to pursuing a PhD, equipping graduates with advanced analytical and research skills in economics.
Applications are submitted through the University of Sydney's online portal. The closing date is 31 January for Semester 1 entry and 15 July for Semester 2 entry. If you are applying for a scholarship, separate deadlines apply and you should check the scholarship closing dates separately.
