The Master of Education (Research) is a supervised research program where your research is conducted under the supervision of a full-time member of academic staff. You are required to participate in an oral colloquium about one third of the way through your candidature, in which your proposed research is defended. You will ultimately submit a thesis embodying the results of your research, which may be a single volume of disciplinary scholarship or a folio consisting of an exegesis and two to four research products relating to professional practice.
Yes, candidates showing significant promise as research students may be invited to transfer their enrolment to the Doctor of Philosophy program. This generally occurs at or post colloquium. Transfer is dependent on meeting the academic requirements for PhD entry and must have the full support of the principal supervisor.
To meet the English language proficiency requirements, you will need to demonstrate at least one of the following: a bachelor degree from a recognised English-speaking country; an IELTS overall score of 7.0 (with no band score less than 6.5) in each component of the test; or other evidence of English language proficiency as recognised by Deakin University.
The course has three intake periods: Trimester 1 starting in March, available at Burwood (Melbourne), Waurn Ponds (Geelong), Warrnambool, and Online; Trimester 2 starting in July, available at the same locations; and Trimester 3 starting in November, which is dependent on supervisor availability.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
