The Master of Education (Research) is usually completed in one to two years for domestic students.
Master of Education candidates may undertake research in one of the following research centres: Arts, English and Literacy Education research Network; China Education Centre; Centre for Research in Computer Supported Learning and Cognition; Policy and Professional Practice Research Network; Social Policy Research Network; TESOL Research Network; University of Sydney Network for Childhood and Youth Research; and Youth Sport and Health research Network.
Applications are assessed in two rounds annually. For Research Period 2 (start date 1 March), applications must be submitted by 30 September of the prior year. For Research Period 3 (start date 1 July), applications must be submitted by 31 March of the same year. Separate deadlines apply for scholarships.
Yes. Before applying, you must find a potential supervisor within the Faculty whose academic background aligns with your research. You will need to provide a written statement from your potential supervisor confirming they have agreed to supervise your project. If you need assistance finding a supervisor, you can contact the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Research Education Team at fass.hdradmin@sydney.edu.au.
Yes, domestic students may study part-time. However, international student visa holders must enrol full-time. Part-time applicants must also supply evidence that they will have sufficient time available to plan and carry out the research and complete the course within the maximum period allowed, as well as a declaration from their employer (if relevant) confirming they will be permitted to take the time required to effectively pursue their studies.
