Common Questions
The combined degree takes 5 years full-time (or part-time equivalent), enabling high-achieving students to undertake what is normally a six-year course of study in only five years.
Yes, all Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Engineering degrees at Flinders are accredited by Engineers Australia at the level of professional engineer. These courses are also recognised internationally under the Washington Accord, and graduates meet the academic requirements for attaining chartered professional engineering status.
You will have the opportunity to undertake a 20-week industry placement as part of your degree, which is one of the longest work placements offered in Australia. You will also gain hands-on exposure to cutting-edge equipment and facilities at Flinders University's technology precinct at Tonsley, and undertake an integrated high-technology design consulting project.
Students can choose a specialisation in either mechanics-based or electronics-based biomedical engineering, with elective topics available in both streams from second year onwards.
Domestic students require SACE stage two specialist mathematics or mathematical methods (or equivalent) as a prerequisite, with knowledge of SACE stage two physics or equivalent assumed. The 2024 selection rank is 95.00, and the guaranteed selection rank is 95.00. Adjustment factors are also available.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
