Master of Engineering (Materials)

The Master of Engineering (Materials) builds the understanding of material properties and behaviours needed to create materials that meet specific performance criteria for medical, defence, manufacturing, energy or aerospace applications.
First year covers essential materials engineering knowledge, with courses in computation for materials engineering, fundamentals of materials, material science and engineering, materials characterisation, and research methods and statistics. You also complete engineering data analytics and engineering management, learning to extract insights, improve decision-making and lead in engineering-based industries.
The elective-driven structure lets you tailor the degree to your interests, with courses spanning quantum materials, advanced engineering of biomaterials, 2D materials, optical engineering and energy materials, alongside advanced material science.
You apply your skills in industry-driven projects through collaboration with industry partners, and build research skills through capstone design and major research projects — developing teamwork and communication skills and professional networks along the way.
The degree is structured with a foundation and extension year, so depending on prior experience and qualifications you may receive credit for the first year, and it forms part of a stackable set of qualifications.
The program totals 96 units — 54 units of core courses and 42 units of electives — over two years across the Adelaide City and Mawson Lakes campuses, with February and July intakes.
