Common Questions
Students can choose from two specialisations: Civil Engineering and Structural Engineering. The Civil Engineering Specialisation gives students the skills and knowledge to ensure the safe, efficient, and sustainable development of physical infrastructure. The Structural Engineering Specialisation prepares students with the skills and knowledge necessary to design, analyse, and construct various structures.
Applicants are required to have one of the following: a Bachelor of Engineering (in Civil or Infrastructure or Construction) (Honours) (minimum 4 years of full-time study) degree, a Graduate Certificate of Engineering (in Civil or Structural or Infrastructure) degree, or a qualification deemed to be equivalent to any of the above. Meeting the minimum entry requirements does not guarantee an offer of a place.
Applicants must have satisfactory completion of one of the following: an IELTS overall band of 6.5 (Academic Module) with no individual band below 6.0, or Swinburne's English for Academic Purposes (EAP 5 Advanced level) with overall 70% and all skills 65% or above, or equivalent measures. The Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic) can be taken at Swinburne's Hawthorn campus.
Yes. Credit transfer is granted in recognition of previous study and/or experience and allows students to gain advanced standing towards their course. Additionally, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) allows students to gain credit towards their course in recognition of skills and knowledge gained through work experience, life experience and/or formal training. Both are assessed on a case-by-case basis.
The Master of Engineering Practice / Master of Construction Management Practice is offered at Swinburne's Hawthorn campus, with intakes available in both Semester 1 and Semester 2. The course duration is 2 years full time or equivalent part time, and can be studied on a full-time or part-time basis.
