The program offers two types of majors. Technical Specialisation Majors include Civil Engineering and Sustainable Infrastructure (Townsville), Electrical and Renewable Energy (Townsville), Internet of Things and Data Engineering (Cairns), Mechanical Engineering (Townsville), and Water Resource Management (Townsville). Engineering with Management Majors include Civil Engineering and Management, Electrical Engineering and Management, and Mechanical Engineering and Management — all combining engineering expertise with leadership and project management skills.
Yes, the Master of Engineering (Professional) at JCU is a professionally accredited program recognised by Engineers Australia. Graduates will have the professional competencies required by Engineers Australia Stage 1 accreditation.
The course requires work-integrated learning (WIL) activities, such as placements, fieldwork, internships, or industry-partnered projects. You will be required to complete a minimum of 130 hours of WIL. Students also benefit from JCU's placement team support in undertaking industry placements, providing valuable workplace experience and professional connections that strengthen career readiness. In addition, you will undertake a substantial thesis project investigating a complex engineering problem through advanced laboratory, field, or computational research.
The indicative annual cost for 2026 is $42,477+, which is an estimated annual tuition and student services and amenities fee for a full-time study load. Fees are subject to change in following years, and scholarships and financial aid may be available if eligible.
The program is available at JCU's Townsville and Cairns campuses, with world-class facilities including the Engineering and Innovation Place in Townsville and the Ideas Lab in Cairns. Intakes commence in January and September at both campuses. Note that some majors, such as Internet of Things and Data Engineering, are only available at the Cairns campus, while others such as Civil Engineering and Sustainable Infrastructure, Electrical and Renewable Energy, Mechanical Engineering, and Water Resource Management are offered at the Townsville campus.
