To be eligible for standard entry, applicants need a Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree (minimum four years of full-time study) in an approved cognate field, or a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma of Engineering in an approved cognate field following on from a four-year Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree. A qualification deemed equivalent to any of the above is also accepted. Applicants with a recognised Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree may be eligible for advanced standing.
The course takes 2 years full-time or an equivalent part-time duration. It is offered at the Hawthorn campus with intakes available in Semester 1, Semester 2, and Study Block 4.
Students must demonstrate English proficiency through satisfactory completion of one of the following: an IELTS overall band of 6.5 (Academic Module) with no individual band below 6.0, Swinburne's English for Academic Purposes (EAP 5 Advanced level) with an overall score of 70% and all skills at 65% or above, or equivalent measures as outlined in Swinburne's English language requirements.
Yes. Swinburne offers both Credit Transfer and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Credit transfer is granted in recognition of previous study and/or experience and allows students to gain advanced standing towards their course. RPL allows students to gain credit based on skills and knowledge gained through work experience, life experience, and/or formal training. Both are assessed on a case-by-case basis.
In addition to Civil Engineering, students can choose from Advanced Manufacturing, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Structural Engineering as their specialisation within the Master of Engineering Science.
