Common Questions
Yes, if you have undertaken previous studies at another institution or have significant relevant employment experience, you may be eligible to apply for RPL at UTS. RPL acknowledges skills and knowledge gained through formal qualifications and informal learning. You can apply after receiving a course offer and before your initial enrolment.
RPL may be granted as either specified credit (subject exemption), where prior learning is equivalent to a specific UTS subject, or unspecified credit (unspecified elective/general advanced standing), where prior learning counts towards an elective component but is not equivalent to a specific UTS subject. Subject substitution may also be offered as an alternative.
You will be notified of your RPL outcome via your UTS webmail account within four to six weeks of application submission. All RPL decisions are final as per the Admissions and RPL Policy, though you may submit a complaint to the Student Complaints Resolution Office or seek review from the Student Ombudsman if dissatisfied.
International students should consider the impact of RPL on their course duration and student visa requirements. It is recommended that international students apply for RPL when applying for their UTS course to ensure processing before their letter of offer is issued. Applications made after the first session will only be considered in exceptional circumstances, with a written statement explaining the delay and any previous applications.
The RPL application process involves four steps: first, research potential RPL using the RPL tool for guidelines and pre-existing arrangements; second, compare UTS subjects using the UTS Handbook to match your previous study content and learning outcomes; third, complete the Application for Recognition of Prior Learning (PDF); and fourth, submit your completed RPL form and supporting documents via Ask UTS, including certified official academic records, qualifications, and supporting evidence such as subject outlines, comparison tables, or portfolios.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
