The degree is structured over two years of full-time study. The first year is identical in structure to the Bachelor of Fashion (Design) (Honours) (BH127). In the first semester, students complete 3 subjects – 2 core subjects and 1 course-based elective. In the second semester, students choose between two study stream options: one offers a major subject in either a design project, a design collection, or a design placement; the other is for students intending to pursue research. In the second year (the master's year proper), students complete 2 core subjects in the first semester to define fashion design strategies and methods, followed by a final capstone semester in which they select from a master's design project, a master's design collection, or a master's design placement, alongside a master's fashion presentation and folio subject.
Yes. RMIT recommends applying via the one-year BH127 Bachelor of Fashion (Design) (Honours) rather than directly into the master's. Eligible students who do so can access a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) for the first year, reducing tuition costs significantly (the CSP annual fee for Visual and Performing Arts is $9,537 per standard year in 2026, compared to the full-fee master's rate of AU$39,360 per year for domestic students). Upon successfully completing the honours degree, students are guaranteed entry into the second year of the Master of Fashion (Design) with 96 credit points of exemption. The total qualification pathway awards two degrees in the same time it would take to complete just the master's.
For domestic students, the 2026 indicative annual fee for the Master of Fashion (Design) (full-fee paying) is AU$39,360. For international students, the 2026 annual fee is AU$44,160. The Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) is a maximum of AU$373 for 2026. Eligible domestic students (Australian citizens or holders of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa) may be able to defer tuition fees using FEE-HELP. If enrolling via the BH127 Bachelor of Fashion (Design) (Honours) for year one, a Commonwealth Supported Place may be available at a significantly reduced student contribution amount.
International applicants to the Master of Fashion (Design) must submit a completed selection task form (MC246) collated as a single PDF. This includes: (1) written applicant statements covering their intended areas of practice and specialisation (max 300 words) and academic/professional background (max 150 words); (2) a folio of no more than 10 pages in PDF format showcasing creative projects from undergraduate studies and professional work, demonstrating research, design process, construction techniques, and finished work; and (3) a selection video of no longer than 3 minutes recorded on camera, introducing themselves and describing one project in detail including research, idea development, design process, and dissemination. Applicants must also disclose any use of AI tools in their submission.
The Master of Fashion (Design) is available for Semester 1 (February) intake only. It is NOT available for midyear (Semester 2) intake. For Semester 1, 2027 entry, direct applications open on 3 August 2026. Selection task details and submission dates for Semester 1, 2027 will be available early August 2026.
The Master of Fashion (Design) has a strong record of students and graduates winning major fashion design awards and scholarships. These include the International Woolmark Prize, the Australian Fashion Foundation (AUSFF) Award, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia (MBFWA) St. George NextGen Showcase, M/FW Melbourne Fashion Week, PayPal Melbourne Fashion Festival National Graduate Showcase, and the MPavilion Master of Fashion Design Showcase. Students have also collaborated with Nike through a series of RMIT x NIKE makers labs, with graduates participating in Nike's Global Talent Recruitment program. Industry placement graduates have secured roles at Lanvin, Vetements, Thom Browne, Dior, Versace, Alexander McQueen, Bottega Veneta, and Phoebe Philo.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
