About This Course

Financial technology (FinTech) is growing exponentially and is transforming the future of business. Built on the intersection of finance and information technology, organisations across various industries are seeking graduates with skills and knowledge in this area to help identify new opportunities for disrupting markets, services and driving positive change. The Master of Financial Technology is aimed at students aspiring to pursue a career within the growing FinTech field covering technology and its impact on banking and the global payment systems, the insurance industry and trading in financial markets. Throughout the degree you will learn through a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical skills related to modern technological developments in the financial sector. You will undertake subjects in data programming, information visualisation and machine learning, explore case studies, engage with industry partners, and apply your knowledge in a FinTech research project. Students who wish to gain a deeper and broader understanding in FinTech have the option to enrol in the Master of Financial Technology Extension. This 2 year program of study offers opportunity to undertake additional electives in web development, system analysis and project management. Fee subsidised places available Graduates of a UOW financial technology degree may wish to pursue a career as an economist, finance manager, analyst programmer or utilise their digital financial literacy skills to enter the FinTech start-up space.

General Requirements

Domestic Students

A recognised bachelor degree with an average mark of 50% or a UOW Graduate Certificate in Financial Technology. Other tertiary qualifications along with extensive professional work experience will be considered.

Work and life experience:

Admission to UOW is primarily based on your academic qualifications, with work or life experience generally not considered. If you do not meet the academic requirements for this course, we recommend exploring recognised pathway programs, such as those offered by UOW College or the TAFE Tertiary Preparation Certificate (TPC).

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people:

UOW's Woolyungah Indigenous Centre's Indigenous Admissions Program (IAP) offers an alternative pathway for Indigenous Australians aged 17 and over who are seeking entry into an undergraduate course at UOW. Upon completing the IAP, applicants will be considered for admission based on an interview and assessment of both academic and non-academic qualities. UOW recognises a range of overseas higher education qualifications. Your qualifications will be assessed for equivalence to Australian qualifications and the admission requirements for this course.
