You'll experience award-winning and innovative teaching from lecturers with extensive activist and advocacy experiences. Together with your peers, you'll engage in important discussions around some of the most urgent global issues we face, and examine how we may respond. Depending on your unique interests and experience, this course can lead to a range of careers in advocacy, policy-making, education, community development, youth work or international development.

General Requirements

A Bachelor Degree or equivalent (and may require relevant work experience), Bachelor Honours Degree, Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma.
English language requirement: IELTS Academic with an overall band score of 6.5, with minimum scores of 6 in Writing, Speaking, Reading, and Listening.
If you've completed a different English test or qualification, you may be able to use it to meet this requirement — check accepted English tests, qualifications and required scores on the English language requirements page.
You may be able to receive credit for recognised learning (CRL) from past study or professional experience, which could reduce the time it takes to finish your course.

This is the only multidisciplinary course in human rights and global engagement in Australia. It is delivered by Curtin's Centre for Human Rights Education and draws on the centre's strong partnerships and commitment to inclusivity, social justice and ethical behaviour, offering award-winning and innovative teaching from lecturers with extensive activist and advocacy experiences.

Will I get any practical or real-world experience as part of this course?

Yes. The course provides opportunities to gain practical experience in real-world scenarios, such as developing advocacy campaign strategies and engaging in simulation exercises modelled on UN human rights agency hearings. You'll also have the opportunity to complete an internship to gain real-world experience in human rights and global engagement.

What are the fees for this course and is financial assistance available?

The 2026 domestic indicative first-year fee is $24,276, based on a full-time study load of 200 credit points. This is a domestic fee-paying (DFP) place, meaning it is not Commonwealth supported. Domestic fee-paying students may be eligible for FEE-HELP assistance. Scholarships are also available to provide financial support, assistance with relocation, or recognition for academic achievements.

What are the entry requirements for the Master of Human Rights and Global Engagement?

Applicants need a Bachelor Degree or equivalent (which may require relevant work experience), a Bachelor Honours Degree, Graduate Certificate, or Graduate Diploma. You must also meet Curtin's English language requirements, which include an IELTS Academic overall band score of 6.5, with a minimum of 6 in each of Writing, Speaking, Reading, and Listening.

The course is offered at Curtin Perth with intakes in Semester 1 and Semester 2. For the 2026 academic year, Semester 2 applications close on 5 July 2026, and Semester 1 2027 applications close on 28 January 2027. You apply directly to Curtin via their online applications portal.
