Common Questions
Students would normally complete the Master of Health Economics over 4 trimesters of full-time study or the part-time equivalent (3 to 4 years part-time). However, depending on your professional experience and previous qualifications, you may commence this course with admission credit and complete your course in 1.5 years full-time (3 years part-time). You can also fast-track by studying available units in the optional third trimester.
To enter the 2-year (16 credit point) program, you need completion of a bachelor degree or higher in any discipline, or evidence of academic capability judged to be equivalent. To enter the 1.5-year (12 credit point) program with admission credit, you need a bachelor degree or higher in a related discipline (such as Health Sciences, Public Health, Commerce or Economics), or a bachelor degree in any discipline plus at least two years of relevant work experience. English language proficiency is also required, demonstrated by an IELTS overall score of 6.5 (with no band score less than 6.0), a bachelor degree from a recognised English-speaking country, or other accepted evidence.
Yes. The work-integrated learning elective Postgraduate Health Practicum (HSH755) allows you to undertake 150 hours of industry experience. This can be an agency-based work placement with an approved organisation, or agency-sponsored work based at the Deakin Freelancing Hub. Limited places are allocated based on an interview process and academic merit. Note that this unit may also require a National Police Record Check, a Working with Children Check or other check.
The estimated tuition fee for a full-fee paying place is $30,600 for 1 year full-time study. This is provided as a guide only and represents the typical first-year tuition fees. The actual cost will vary depending on the units you choose, your study load, the length of your course and any approved Recognition of Prior Learning. Domestic students enrolled in this postgraduate coursework program may be eligible for student income support through Youth Allowance and Austudy.
Yes. The Master of Health Economics is available both on-campus at Burwood (Melbourne) and online. All three intake trimesters — Trimester 1 (March), Trimester 2 (July), and Trimester 3 (November) — are available at both the Burwood (Melbourne) campus and online. Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
