Yes. Domestic students can study the course on a full-time or part-time basis, with the standard duration being 2 years full-time or part-time equivalent. International students are only able to study full-time. Special entry may also be considered for students with a cognate first degree or appropriate experience, allowing a reduced course duration of 1.5 years full-time (3 years part-time) for 180 credit points.
Yes. Students have the opportunity to spend their final semester undertaking a professional placement embedded within a host organisation. Successful applicants will enrol in SCI6700 Professional Placement (Science and Mathematics) in place of SCI6108 Postgraduate Science Project. The placement is equivalent to one semester of full-time study, typically comprising a minimum of 300 hours over a maximum of 17 weeks, with typical full-time placements comprising 450 hours.
The estimated first year indicative fee for domestic fee-paying students is AUD $30,650. For international students, the estimated first year indicative fee is AUD $42,400. These figures are provided as a guide only, based on a typical enrolment of students undertaking the first year of the course.
Graduates of this course will be able to: reflect critically on a complex body of knowledge and recent global developments in horticultural science, research principles, and methods related to professional practice; analyse complex concepts to solve problems in authentic horticultural scenarios; communicate innovative contributions to specialist and non-specialist audiences in the field of horticulture; and initiate, plan and execute a substantial horticulture science focused project.
The Master of Horticultural Science (course code T66, CRICOS code 108845B for international students) has been accredited by ECU as an AQF Level 9 Masters Degree (Coursework) Award. It is available at the Joondalup campus with intakes in both Semester 1 and Semester 2.
