The course is informed through environmental issues and Native Title; Indigenous research methodology; Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander literature and creative practice; social commentaries; unique historical and contemporary perspectives of local and global Indigenous experience; sense of place; Aboriginal organisational practice; and visits to Country, among other topics.
Students require a Bachelor (Honours) degree, a Graduate Certificate, or a Graduate Diploma (AQF Level 8 Qualification). Students may also enter with a Bachelor Degree and relevant work experience as determined by the Course Coordinator on a case-by-case basis. English language requirements also apply, with a minimum IELTS overall band score of 6.5 (with no band below 6).
The 2026 domestic indicative Commonwealth-supported first-year fee is $17,400. This is based on a first-year full-time study load of 200 credit points. Fees may vary depending on the units chosen, and the indicative fee does not include administrative and incidental fees or the cost of textbooks.
Yes, the course is open to both Indigenous and non-Indigenous students. Indigenous students will flourish in this learning and research environment, while non-Indigenous students will gain cultural learning and a view of Indigenous knowledge. Students are offered a culturally safe learning experience, and staff are Indigenous with much knowledge to share.
The course is available with intakes in both Semester 1 and Semester 2 at Curtin Perth. For the 2026 academic year, Semester 2 applications are open with a closing date of 5 July 2026, and Semester 1 2027 applications are also open with a closing date of 28 January 2027.
