About This Course

This degree provides a pathway to Higher Degree Research studies by engaging you in research projects within the University or in collaboration with an external organisation. The Master of Information and Communications Technology (Research) will expose you to advanced topics and research in Information and Communications Technology (ICT). This program comprises a coursework component followed by a full-time-equivalent year of supervised research training. Offered as a Masters Degree qualification of 200 credit points, it is normally completed in 2.5 years full-time. It is delivered at Western Sydney University's Parramatta South campus. The Master of Information and Communications Technology (Research) is accredited at Professional Level by the Australian Computer Society Graduates pursue roles such as Systems Architecture, Systems Integration and Research and Academia. It is administered within Western Sydney University's Computer, Data and Mathematical Sciences academic area. Subjects include Cloud Systems Development, Applied Machine Learning, Research Preparation in Post Graduate Studies, Social Media Intelligence and Data Science. Intakes are offered in 1st Half, 2nd Half, Autumn and Spring. Graduates are expected to be able to synthesise the ICT body of knowledge with recent technical and research developments in the discipline.

General Requirements

Work Experience (to cover paid work experience, traineeships, work placements): Applicants who do not meet the AAM equal to or above the minimum of 65 will be considered in exceptional circumstances, and applicants whose most recent qualification is 5+ years old shall provide additional evidence of relevant work experience or professional training, or evidence of seniority and standing in an area of endeavour and provide written support from the potential supervisor. Examples of evidence may include; work as a research assistant or laboratory technician, the writing of policy, consultancy involving the writing of reports, production of creative output, and publication of peer reviewed journal articles. Applications will be reviewed and approved by the relevant Director and the Dean of the School of Computer, Data and Mathematical Sciences. Tertiary Education: A Bachelor degree, Bachelor Honours degree or a Master degree in any discipline. Achievement of a threshold Admission Average Mark (AAM) equal to or above the minimum of 65.
