Students with a cognate background: A bachelor degree (AQF Level 7 equivalent) in a cognate discipline with a minimum weighted average mark of 65%*.
Cognate disciplines include: Artificial Intelligence, Deep learning, Machine Learning, Mechatronics, Autonomous systems, Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science and Statistics, Data Analytics, Database management, Internet of Things, Network Engineering, Remote Sensing, Electronic Information Communication Technology, Network Security, Cyber Security, Information Security, Management Information Systems, Technology, Engineering.
Students with a non-cognate background: A 3 year Bachelor Degree (AQF Level 7 equivalent) in any discipline with a minimum 65% average*. Successful applicants will be offered entry via the Graduate Certificate in Information Technology/Master of IT pathway. Students can articulate to the Master of IT after passing 18 UOC of foundational courses.
1 year program (via Recognition of Prior Learning): A 4 year Bachelor Degree with honours (AQF Level 8 equivalent) from any institution in a cognate discipline (Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering).
1.7 year program (via Recognition of Prior Learning): A 3 year Bachelor Degree (AQF Level 7 equivalent) from any institution in a cognate discipline (Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering).
*Qualifications from non-211 Chinese Universities will require a 70% average.
English language proficiency requirements apply; evidence may be required depending on educational background and citizenship.

Students with a 4-year honours bachelor degree (AQF Level 8) in a cognate discipline such as Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or Computer Engineering may be eligible to complete the program in 1 year. Students with a 3-year bachelor degree in a cognate discipline may complete it in 1.7 years.

What are the fees for the Master of Information Technology?

For domestic students, the 2026 indicative CSP first year fee is $9,500 and the fee to complete the degree is $19,000. For full-fee paying domestic students, the 2026 indicative first year full fee is $45,000 and the fee to complete the degree is $92,500. For international students, the 2026 indicative first year fee is $63,000 and the indicative full fee to complete the degree is $130,500. Fees are subject to annual review and may vary.

What entry pathway is available if I do not have a background in computing?

Students without a cognate background can apply for the Master of Information Technology and, if eligible, will be offered entry via the Graduate Certificate in Information Technology/Master of IT pathway. This requires a 3-year Bachelor Degree (AQF Level 7 equivalent) in any discipline with a minimum 65% average. Students can articulate to the Master of Information Technology after passing 18 UOC of foundational courses, and the total study duration remains the same at 2 years (96 UoC). No separate application is required for this pathway.
