Yes. If you're seeking a career change, you can enter the course with no background in IT and graduate ready for employment in a broad range of IT positions in private industry, government agencies or research organisations.
The course takes 1, 1.5, or 2 years to complete full-time depending on your entry rule, or up to 6 years part-time. It consists of 16 units (96 credit points), and advanced standing may reduce total study time.
You will cover the essential elements of information technology, such as computer programming, database management systems, web technologies and software development. You will also have opportunities to study specialised topics such as computer networks and security, artificial intelligence, management information systems, user experience design and web programming, and work with industry-leading programming languages such as Python, JavaScript and SQL.
Yes. You can exit early with a Graduate Diploma in Information Technology if you choose not to complete the full master's course at a stage where you satisfy the requirements for the Graduate Diploma.
The course is available online and at the Armidale campus in Trimester 1 (February 2026) and Trimester 2 (June 2026). The Armidale campus does not offer Trimester 3 (October 2026) intake, while the online mode is available across all three trimesters. The Sydney campus offers places in Trimester 1 and Trimester 2 for international students. The CRICOS code is 047297A.
