The Helen Hughes Prize in International and Development Economics is an annual prize offered by the Crawford School of Public Policy, College of Law, Governance and Policy. It recognises outstanding achievement in the Master of International and Development Economics, with a value of $500 awarded each semester.
The prize is available each semester to an ANU student who is a domestic or international student, is enrolled in the Master of International and Development Economics in the Crawford School of Public Policy, has completed the requirements for the award of the degree, and has achieved the highest weighted average mark across the degree program as determined by the Arndt-Corden Department of Economics Examiner's Committee. Students who have made a second or subsequent attempt at any course in the master's degree are not eligible.
The prize will be on offer from 2025 to 2027, unless otherwise advertised, and is available each semester during that period.
The prize is named for Emeritus Professor Helen Hughes, who served as Professor of Economics and Executive Director of the National Centre for Development Studies (1983–1993), and Director of the International Development Program (1984–1992) at the Research School of Pacific Studies, Australian National University.
If the prize is accepted, the recipient agrees to the publication of their name. In some instances, the recipient may be asked to write a letter of thanks to the donor and/or participate in marketing activities and/or provide a reflective statement. A prize may be declined in writing to Student Engagement, Crawford School of Public Policy, no later than 30 days from notification.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
