Master of International and Security Law

The Master of International and Security Law covers the rules and strategies that keep nations safe, in a field shaped by emerging threats and changing geopolitical dynamics — from cybersecurity threats to humanitarian crises and territorial disputes.
Your studies begin with an introduction to Australian and public international law, exploring Australian law and its legal system, its history, and issues of the supremacy of law. From there you develop an advanced understanding of the principles of law in relation to international and national security.
You examine and compare legal frameworks across different cultures, societies and disciplines, and become expert in developing legal argument, research and writing. The impact of artificial intelligence on law and security is covered directly.
A wide range of electives lets you follow your interests, including counter-terrorism, space law and maritime law, and the research component comes from a variety of streams suited to your learning preferences — including a PhD research pathway, working toward a dissertation critiquing the operation of law.
Partnerships with leading overseas universities let you engage with global experts and broaden your scope of learning.
The program totals 96 units — 12 units of core courses, up to 24 units of discipline courses and 60 to 84 units of electives — over two years at the Adelaide City Campus, with February and July intakes.
