Common Questions
The Master of International Journalism differs in emphasis from the Master of Journalism in that it focuses on providing perspectives and skills for working in international environments and supports international students interested in practising journalism in their home countries, whereas the Master of Journalism focuses on equipping students with writing and presentation skills for Australian and other English-speaking industry settings.
The course combines an emphasis on key skills — including news gathering and news writing, video, audio, digital and social media production — with an international outlook on how different media operate in different cultures and markets, as well as a focus on areas where transnational perspective is important, such as business and finance journalism.
The degree is particularly tailored for students from an international background and for those interested in understanding and producing journalism in an international field of practice, where key skills are complemented by an understanding of different professional traditions, conventions, cultures and challenges.
The Master of International Journalism has two intake periods: March and July, and is delivered on campus at the University of Melbourne's Parkville campus.
The Master of International Journalism takes 2 years to complete full time, or up to 4 years if studying part time.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
