Yes, the course is fully accredited by the Australian Institute of Medical and Clinical Scientists (AIMS). Full accreditation was awarded for the Melbourne, Rockhampton and Mixed-mode campuses from November 2024. Upon successful completion, graduates are eligible to graduate as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (ANZSCO 234611) and are eligible to apply for Professional membership of AIMS. Accreditation for the Sydney campus has been applied for in March 2026.
The clinical placement unit (LMED29013 - Clinical Placement in Laboratory Medicine) involves 560 hours (16 weeks) of work placement at a NATA-approved diagnostic pathology laboratory. Student learning is supported by clinical supervisors on-site and academics at CQUniversity.

Yes, you may be eligible for advanced standing and required to complete only one year of study (48 credit points) if you hold a 4-year AIMS-accredited Bachelor degree in Medical Laboratory Science (or equivalent) with 1 year of postgraduate professional experience, or a 3-year AIMS-accredited Bachelor degree with 2 years of postgraduate professional experience, or a non-accredited degree in Medical Laboratory Science with 5 years of postgraduate professional experience. Applicants must prove their academic and work experience to gain recognition of prior learning.
You must complete 14 units (96 credits) in total: seven core units, one clinical placement unit, two advanced units chosen from a specified list, and either CQU's Graduate Certificate of Research (four units) or four units chosen from a specified elective list. The course takes 2 years full-time or 4 years part-time, with an indicative first-year fee of $33,300 (2026, Full Fee Paying).
