About This Course

The Master of Laboratory Medicine is designed for graduates of biology, biotechnology or biomedical science degrees who are interested in a career in diagnostic pathology or medical research. Students will gain first-hand experience of the latest advances in diagnostic medicine and will develop the knowledge and skills to be key players in the innovation and future development of the industry. The program covers practical laboratory skills, advanced and innovative techniques in diagnostic pathology, and provides excellent placement experiences both in research and professional diagnostic pathology. Graduates will be fully prepared for employment in a modern pathology facility, and for leadership roles in the industry.

Entry Requirements

General Requirements

Admission criteria text: Entry into the Master of Laboratory Medicine (160 units) will be available for applicants who have completed a 3-year AQF 7 Bachelor degree (or equivalent) in a Health, Medical or Biomedical discipline. Applicants who have completed the Graduate Certificate in Laboratory Medicine offered at the University of Newcastle (or equivalent) may enter with 40 units of RPL. A Semester 2 intake at Callaghan into the Master of Laboratory Medicine is available for applicants who have successfully completed at least 75% (30 units) of the the Graduate Certificate in Laboratory Medicine at the University of Newcastle. Applicants may enter the Research specialisation with credit for HUBS6401A, HUBS6401B, HUBS6402A and HUBS6402B if they have completed: The Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Honours), Bachelor of Medical Science (Honours), Bachelor of Health Science (Honours), Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) or the Bachelor of Midwifery (Honours) programs from the University of Newcastle; OR 80 units (or equivalent) of full-time (or part-time equivalent) research, i.e. MPhil, or 12 months full-time (or part-time equivalent) of a PhD.
