About This Course

The Master of Landscape Architecture teaches the art and science of designing outdoor spaces and built environments that work with nature, enrich communities and promote sustainability — from urban parks and gardens to sustainable cities and ecological restoration.
You design landscape architecture projects that honour community health and wellbeing while championing diversity and sustainability, grow your understanding of ecology, and create planting plans for liveable spaces that work in harmony with the natural environment.
The degree combines advanced theoretical landscape architecture knowledge with hands-on, real-world problem-solving, built around experimenting with designs in a collaborative studio learning environment. Courses may include landscape architecture creative cultures alongside the design studios.
You bring designs to life in a supervised fabrication and prototyping workshop, experimenting with space and materials using analogue and digital technologies, and learn to use surveying equipment, AR and VR facilities, and industry-specific software including remote sensing (Lidar) and Geographic Information Systems.
For students without the required undergraduate background, packaged degrees allow the Bachelor of Architectural Design and this master's to be completed as a combined pathway toward professional registration.
The program totals 96 units — 78 units of core courses, 6 units of work integrated learning and 12 units of electives — over two years at the Adelaide City Campus, with February and July intakes.

To be eligible, an applicant must have achieved at least one of the following minimum entry requirements and demonstrate they fulfil any prerequisite and essential criteria for admission. In cases where there are more eligible applicants than available places, admission will be competitive with ranks based on the entry criteria. A completed bachelor (AQF level 7) or bachelor honours (AQF level 8) degree or equivalent from a recognised higher education institution; OR A completed nested or related graduate certificate (AQF level 8) or higher or equivalent from a recognised higher education institution.
• Additional requirements — A design portfolio must be submitted. The portfolio should include the applicant's own creative works from previous degrees, professional, and/or personal background, showing design skills, knowledge, and familiarity with a range of design tools and media. In addition to final outcomes, it should comprise evidence of design process, development and drawing documentation. The portfolio may include material developed with others if clearly referenced and the applicant's contribution explained.
