Common Questions
Domestic students enrolled in this Higher Degree by Research program are not required to pay tuition fees. The Australian Government provides domestic students with tuition fee offsets under the Research Training Program (RTP) for up to 2 years full-time (or equivalent) for Master by Research courses. Note that the RTP covers tuition fees only; students will still be required to pay all other non-tuition fees such as the Student Services and Amenities Fee.
In Year 1 Semester 1, students complete three compulsory units: Research Preparation: Principles and Approaches (RES5115), Educational Research (RES6101), and Thesis Preparation (FBL6140). From Year 1 Semester 2 through to Year 2 Semester 2, students undertake the Thesis (FBL6200), which makes a substantial contribution to legal knowledge.
This course has been accredited by ECU as an AQF Level 9 Masters Degree (Research) Award.
The estimated 1st year indicative fee for international students is AUD $47,550. This is provided as a guide only and has been calculated based on a typical enrolment of students undertaking the first year of this course. At ECU, students pay for each individual unit they enrol in, not an overall course fee, so the total cost will vary depending on what units are chosen.
Graduates can pursue careers in advanced research, tertiary education, professional training and policy development, in addition to careers in legal private practice, in-house corporate practice and in-house government. Possible future job titles include Academic, Solicitor, Barrister, Judiciary, In-house Counsel, Arbitrator, Mediator, Company Secretary, Public Service employee, and Private Researcher. Students interested in further study can also consider the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
