About This Course

This master's degree will expand your knowledge and skills in leadership and management in healthcare. It aims to prepare graduates to become ethical, effective health leaders and managers who support innovation and can take the lead in the strategic development of a range of organisations, leading to culturally safe, resource-efficient health care in local, national and global health contexts.

Graduates will be able to evaluate the issues and challenges that the industry, healthcare professionals and consumers encounter, conceptualise new and creative approaches to leadership and management that support service delivery in diverse health care settings, and connect theory, practice and research in the field. The course also asks students to examine the ethical aspects of personal, social, cultural, environmental and institutional change in contemporary health care delivery, reflect on opportunities to enhance professional practice in local, regional and global contexts, and contribute to values-based professional practice in dynamic and challenging environments.

To complete the course a student must finish 160 credit points: 130 credit points of specified leadership and management in healthcare units, a 20 credit point specified project unit and 10 credit points of elective units, covering areas such as quality and safety in health care, organisational culture and management, workforce management, policy and planning, redesign in health service delivery and healthcare ethics. It is delivered at ACU's North Sydney campus. Students who complete the requirements for the Graduate Certificate or the Graduate Diploma in Leadership and Management in Healthcare may exit with the relevant award. The course is not currently externally accredited, though ACU has discussed applying for accreditation with the Australasian College of Health Services Management.

General Requirements

Domestic students

To be eligible for admission to the Master of Leadership and Management in Healthcare, an applicant must have completed either:
i. a Bachelor degree in a health discipline or equivalent; OR
ii. the Graduate Certificate in Leadership and Management in Healthcare, or equivalent; OR
iii. the Graduate Diploma in Leadership and Management in Healthcare, or equivalent.
An applicant must also comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy.
Applicants with higher education study must still meet the minimum entry requirements and subject prerequisites. Applicants who have completed at least two units of AQF-recognised study at bachelor level or above are assigned a new selection rank reflecting their study level, duration and grade point average, and prior study or relevant work experience may attract credit or recognition of prior learning.

International applicants need the equivalent of an Australian bachelor's degree in a health discipline or equivalent.
Applicants must also comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy, including the English Language Proficiency requirements.
IELTS: academic minimum overall score of 6.5, with a minimum score of 6.0 in all bands, or an equivalent acceptable test score as outlined in the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy.
