Applicants require a recognised Bachelor of Science degree with an equivalent average mark of 50% in chemistry or medicinal chemistry, including at least 24 credit points (or equivalent) of third-year chemistry, as well as at least second-year biology and biochemistry. English language proficiency requirements also apply if English is not your first language.
The indicative course fee for a full-fee paying place is $60,811 for 2026 (based on normal course length and progression), with a session fee of $15,203. However, in 2026, domestic students may be eligible for either a Commonwealth supported place (CSP) or a UOW-subsidised fee reduction of up to 75% off the listed fees.
The course is available with two intake sessions per year. In 2026, the Autumn session starts on 2 March 2026 and the Spring session starts on 27 July 2026. In 2027, the Autumn session starts on 1 March 2027 and the Spring session starts on 26 July 2027.
Graduates of the Master of Medicinal Chemistry can pursue careers as Analytical Chemists, Clinical Research Associates, Forensic Scientists, Medical Scientists, Medicinal Chemistry Consultants, Pharmacokineticists, Quality Control Analysts, Radiopharmaceutical/Synthetic Chemists, Regulatory Scientists, Toxicologists, and more.
Students will use laboratory instruments and computer modelling to develop therapeutics, and will be exposed to emerging technologies such as the use of drones, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and coding in science data collection and analysis. The degree also integrates science communication, science management, and graduate work practice skills to prepare graduates for diverse career pathways.
