Master of Midwifery

The Master of Midwifery is designed for practising midwives who want to advance their professional practice and knowledge through higher-level practice, leadership education and research.
Scaffolded learning builds critical thinking, analysis, innovation, leadership and research skills alongside advanced specialised knowledge. From first year you tailor your learning by selecting from a range of advanced electives.
Options include advancing your understanding of pharmacotherapeutics through courses that build toward accreditation to safely prescribe medications, or a deeper grounding in pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics; learning to improve therapeutic relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples; and expanding your scientific knowledge.
From second year you focus your learning by choosing either the clinical or the research stream. The degree culminates either in demonstrated clinical application addressing a specific issue, or in producing original research.
Learning takes place in facilities that include immersive augmented and virtual reality, and cutting-edge tools and techniques in midwifery are covered throughout. Early exit points with a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Midwifery are available.
The program totals 96 units — 12 units of core courses, 12 to 24 units of discipline courses and 60 to 72 units of electives — over two years, on campus at Adelaide City or online, with February and July intakes.
