The Master of Midwifery at Adelaide University is designed to advance your professional midwifery practice and knowledge.
Take your practice to the next level through developing advanced specialised knowledge. Scaffolded learning will enable you to build critical thinking, analysis, innovation, leadership, and research skills.
You’ll have the opportunity to tailor your studies to areas that interest you by selecting from a wide variety of electives. From second year you’ll further focus your learning by selecting either the clinical or research stream. Your learning will culminate in demonstrated clinical application that addresses a specific issue or through producing an original research publication or thesis.
Your learning will be enhanced through immersion in cutting-edge technologies and advancements within the midwifery field. You’ll explore innovative tools and techniques that’ll empower your practice and provide you with the confidence to pioneer improved family and woman-centred care.
The Master of Midwifery is part of a nested suite of programs. You can choose to exit early with a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Midwifery.

Designed for practising midwives, the Master of Midwifery at Adelaide University will advance your professional knowledge and empower you to take your practice to the next level.
From your first year you’ll have the flexibility to tailor your learning to your interests by selecting from a range of advanced electives.
Advance your understanding of pharmacotherapeutics through courses that will enhance your knowledge and skills to be accredited to safely prescribe medications or better understand the principles of pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics. Or explore and learn to improve therapeutic relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Expand your scientific knowledge of infection prevention and control, or further specialise your knowledge of women’s reproductive and sexual health. Choose to level-up your proficiency in breastfeeding and lactation management or advance your knowledge of maternal and child health.
To further focus your learning, you will select either the clinical or research stream. Through the clinical stream you’ll continue to expand your knowledge in practice while in the research stream you’ll build your research capabilities starting with the research specific elective in your first year. Through a scaffolded approach you’ll be supported to produce an original research publication or thesis. Within the clinical stream you’ll consider a specific issue or problem relevant within the field to address through an independent or collaborative application.
Cutting-edge technology such as 360-degree Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (AR) will enhance your learning while a variety of applied and immersive teaching practices and reality-rich research projects will further deepen your knowledge.
