No, the course is designed for both legal and non-legal professionals. Non-law graduates with a bachelor's degree in a cognate area (or any bachelor's degree with at least two years of relevant professional experience) and a UWA weighted average mark of at least 50 per cent are eligible to apply, making it accessible to engineers, geologists, marketing professionals, and commercial and finance professionals.
The course covers a wide range of legal considerations across the mining, energy and resources sector, including exploration and production of minerals and petroleum in Australia, native title, concepts of sustainability and social license to operate, and other broad policy objectives. Students also gain technical knowledge such as how petroleum is produced or how iron ore is mined.
