Develop the foundations of academic research, including methodologies, ethics, critical thinking, and information literacy across diverse music fields.
Major Study 1
Begin a substantial creative and practice-based research project, developing technical, interpretive, and conceptual skills under supervision.

Common Questions
The program is structured around three components: 50% Creative Projects, where you propose and develop a significant creative project such as organising a music festival, composing original music, or innovating in the music business; 30% Research, where you undertake research subjects that support and inform your creative projects; and 20% Electives, where you choose from a range of subjects such as Music and Sound for Media, Production, Teaching Techniques for Early Learners, Finance, and Governance. You will also receive personalised 1:1 mentoring from industry practitioners.
For domestic students, the indicative fee per study period is $7,652, with an indicative total course fee of $45,912. FEE-HELP is available for eligible students. For international students, the indicative fee per study period is $9,216, with an indicative total course fee of $55,296. Fees are subject to change by AIM without notice.
The Master of Music has three intake dates per year: February, May, and September. For example, Study Period 2 2026 begins with Orientation Week on 25–29 May, with Week 1 starting 1 June, and Study Period 3 2026 begins with Orientation Week on 7–11 September, with Week 1 starting 14 September.
The Master of Music offers the opportunity to specialise in a range of disciplines, including performance, composition, music technology, and the music business. The program is tailored to your unique experience and career goals, and you have the flexibility to propose and bring your unique ideas to life with guidance and mentorship from experienced industry professionals.
