Common Questions
The thesis is the major component of the degree and must be between 25,000 to 40,000 words. Throughout the candidature, students work with their supervisory team on the development and preparation of the thesis.
Students must complete 18 compulsory credit points, including 12 credit points of research methods and 6 credit points of elective units of study from the Conservatorium's list in Table R or other approved postgraduate electives.
As part of your Expression of Interest, you will need to upload a preliminary research proposal of at least 1500-2000 words outlining your subject area, objectives, introductory literature review, method proposed, significance and schedule; a one-page CV; and supplementary evidence of expertise such as music scores, links to past performances, or samples of academic writing.
Applications close on 31 October for Research Period 2 (March–June) and 30 April for Research Period 3 (July–September). Applications are open all year round, and you should apply at least 6 weeks prior to your intended start date. Separate scholarship application deadlines also apply.
There is no separate tuition fee cost for the coursework units of study you will undertake — it is included as part of the tuition fee for the course.
