Yes. Prospective students must first lodge an Expression of Interest notice, which requires a preliminary research proposal of at least 1500-2000 words outlining your subject area, objectives, introductory literature review, method proposed, significance and schedule of your proposed research project, a one-page CV, and supplementary evidence of expertise such as music scores, links to past performances, or samples of academic writing.
Applications are open all year round. The closing dates are 31 October for Research Period 2 (March-June) and 30 April for Research Period 3 (July-September). You should apply at least 6 weeks prior to your intended start date. Separate scholarship application deadlines also apply.
There is no separate tuition fee cost for the coursework units of study you will undertake — it is part of the tuition fee for the course. However, additional non-tuition course costs vary depending on the units of study.
Master of Music students will complete 18 credit points of coursework chosen from units offered by the Conservatorium. Students may also choose from the University pool of units, which includes specialist analytical methods, professional development units, and discipline-specific subjects relevant for research students.
There are two research periods available: Research Period 2 runs from March to June, with enrolment between 1 February and 31 March and a census date of 31 March; Research Period 3 runs from July to September, with enrolment between 1 April and 31 August and a census date of 31 August.
